Timber
Softwood
Whilst it is possible for us to manufacture in Baltic Redwood, because of its natural defects of knots we prefer to use laminated red pine. This is produced using boards which are kiln dried to 12% - 15% moisture content. Boards are then scanned by computer for knots and shakes which are then cut out. The remaining sections of clear grade timber are then finger jointed and laminated together to give stable strong and defect free timber. Most of our red pine doors use clear faced laminated timber.
Hardwood
The first choice for timber windows and doors because of its availability and value for money is tropical hardwood, normally Meranti. A very durable timber ideally suited to windows and doors manufacturing. All our timber is sourced from managed and sustainable areas through accredited suppliers.
European / American white faced oak, which is laminated in our workshop, is a naturally very strong and beautifully grained luxury timber. Preferred by our self build customers to give their unique homes that extra touch of class.

Finish Options
Basecoat only
We can supply our products with a basecoat only finish. The basecoat is a primer and preservative only and gives no weather protection. It is very important that two coats of a microporus wood stain are applied as soon as possible. Do not use paint or varnish, use a wood stain from a reputable supplier only. Clear finishes should not be applied to the outside, pigments in the stain give UV protection.
Full Factory Finish
Our preferred option is to supply our windows and doors with a full factory finish. This means that the preservative, basecoat and topcoat are applied in a controlled environment. A sprayed coating is much thicker than on applied by brush. All sashes and frames are completely covered all over before assembly. We achieve a factory finish by first applying preservative and basecoat through an automatic flow coater. Jets of basecoat are liberally sprayed all over the timber. After drying two coats of the final topcoat are applied in a specially designed spray booth. End grain and joint sealer are applied before the final topcoat.
Translucent finishes are available in Oak, Teak and Mahogany. Opaque Finishes are available in any RAL or BS code giving hundreds of possible options. Two tone finishes are also possible.
